Tim Trimble, Town and Wiltshire Councillor, Bradford on Avon North

Tim is a former geoscientist who enjoys an active retired life in Bradford on Avon. He has volunteered with the town’s Community Emergency Volunteers since 2016 and more recently with the LINK drivers who help provide transport to hospital appointments. He and his wife, Cathy, a retired community nurse, have three adult children.

Tim says “This is a beautiful town with great walks and cycle rides right on the doorstep plus a host of brilliant pubs and cafés - which is good, as I love beer, buns and coffee! Through volunteering, I’ve got to know first-hand what a brilliant community spirit we have here. I would like to help draw on that spirit to make the town an even better place to live.

“The climate and ecological emergency is the overriding issue of our time so as a councillor I’d be particularly interested in promoting low carbon transport schemes, such as more electric vehicle charge points and shared use E-Bikes and E-Cars. Affordable housing is an acute problem especially for young people and I’m excited by some affordable, eco-friendly schemes emerging in Bristol and Swindon which we could replicate.

“I believe that democracy is a process, not a four-yearly event. We need to engage with as many groups and individuals as possible so that people become ‘active citizens’ and are proud of their council as well as their town. We can achieve this through citizens’ or residents’ panels or assemblies.
